Soda Blasting

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a soda blaster to clean up my windows, which I am just beginning to renovate. From what I can see, I can get one for under $100 on Ebay, and I figure that I'll be able to use it to clean the fiberglass before I paint it as well.

So, does anyone have much experience with soda blasting that they can share?

Many thanks,
Celeste

Hi: Celeste...The plexiglass front and rear windows clean and scratches removed with Brasso. Apply just like any car wax. Aluminium frames and belly band clean well with Nev-R-Dul metal polish (wool in a can). Soda blasting seems a little harsh for my taste.

Celeste, I soda blasted my 1980 Burro aluminum window frames. They were badly pitted and cruddy, and the blaster cleaned them up really nicely without damage. They look nearly good as new, really.

I'm not sure to what extent you're familiar with the whole setup, so just noting that you do need to have an air compressor to hook up to. I get by blasting medium (ie coarse baking soda) at Harbor Freight - they have a couple of levels of coarsensess.
