Sticky ensolite

We have a "77 Scamp that we are renovating. Two weeks ago, we washed down the ensolite and applied latex Premium Kiltz
primer. It is still sticky to the touch and we are baffled as what to do now. We want to put two coats of latex paint but can't
until we clear up this problem. Any suggestions?<div align="left">

Just curious.... Did you have the store shake the can for you? It sounds like the primer was either defective or didn't get stirred well enough. Was that oil or water based Kilz?

I'm not sure that this info will help now, but I am interested in how you prepped the Ensolite, if you wouldn't mind sharing that info.

We painted over the primer and that seemed to solve the problem. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be a tad stickiy--seemed dry, just smidge tacky to thetouch--but since it is a 'primer- we figured we were supposed to paint over and that's what we did. We are happy with the end result.
If you want, do like reply earlier, get store to shake and repaint to see if a change happens in a small area. if not, well, paint over.

I am glad it worked out! Good Job!

Should not be tacky after 24 Hours. Sounds like something retarded the curing. Some things that can cause that are: Really old paint, that did not get stirred long enough. A Can that Froze at one time. Really cold surface that was painted. Really cold ambient temperature. Super high humidity (More of a problem for water based paints).

It sounds like the cure was retarded, not prevented... So you should be good! Let us know how the final product comes out!

We prepped our ensolite using vinegar/water solution--washing it about 3 times until it was squeaky clean with no smells. luckily we did not have to destroy smoky smell, just musty smell. after vinegar/water, just water to make sure nothing remained of anything to hinder the Kilz. went on fine.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. We did stir the primer really well. It was an unused can that was about six months old. Also, we did some fairly decent prep work........we washed down the ensolite with a good household cleaner and rinsed well. We are still not sure what caused the stickiness but we think we now have a cure. We talked with a painter friend and he suggested we apply oil based Kiltz primer over the latez Kiltz. We happened to have can of spray oil based Kiltz so we sprayed it on a small test area. Presto, it worked!! After drying, there was no more sticky. Hope this may help someone else with a sticky situation!
