Sticky Ensolite...

Just bought a 1976 Booler b-1300 -all original- The original interior "ensolite" is in perfect condition, the only problem is that it is sticky to the touch..sticky everywhere...both exposed and hidden areas....I don't do sticky... Is it possible to clean off the sticky? Appreciate any help with this... Thankyou

Mine was sticky too..with years of accumulated grease, smoke, mold and just plain dirt. I gutted mine and washed it with the hose and several types of cleaners before painting.

I don't think you will want to do that so what I would do is try various cleaners in small spots to test their effectiveness. I would think some sort of degreaser scrubbed with a soft brush to get into the cracks would work the best.

I need to clarify...The ensolite looks perfectly clean/white It is just sticky to the touch... Almost as if a chemical de-composition is going on -after sitting unused for 35 years- so I am hesitent to scrub it... anyway, much thanks, I need to try something... Randy

A lot of those 70's era plastics just disintegrate, probably in response to ozone in the air and UV. I'd follow the suggestions above and work your way up the vinegar and water, 409, bleach, simple green, soylant green, and rubbing alcohol ladder. If that doesn't work, switch to grain alcohol and start looking at alternatives!

Randy, Did you solve your ensolite tacky problem? What was your solutuion? I have the same problem with my 73 trillium. I have a clean surface but the tackiness is still there... interestingly it isn't tacky at the bottom areas by cushions and gets tackier as your head upwards to the celiling where it is the tackiest. Randy, our '74 Scamp was like yours: clean-looking ensolite, but sticky to the touch. We had it professionally spray painted. Used a high-quality car primer and paint with an additive for better adhesion and flex. Never one bit of a problem after. Don't remember brand names or products, but any good auto painter should know what to use.

Warm soapy water with a scrub brush, Clorox clean up, Tilex not exactly in that order.
