I'm definitely getting the Anderson Leveller. I've been going old school with various lengths of 2 X 6 and it's time to enter the 21st century
I watched the YouTube video and it looks pretty easy to use.

I thought the jacks were a good idea until Donna posted-- (no need to carry anything else and they can lift 4500 lbs. )

Scamp recommends taking the weight off the axle during winter storage--
Maybe it is the mounting location on the frame that would cause problems.

So, where do you jack up the axle?


"Removing weight from axle: Jack up the axle and block it up to take the weight off the suspension. The tires don't have to be off the ground. Just take the main weight off the axle. Leaving the weight of the trailer on the suspension for extended periods while stored is extremely hard on the torsion axle. The rubber will compress and not relax as fully as before. Relieve tire pressure to 10 or 15 pounds while stored. This will extend your tire life."

Think of it a bit differently. You're not jacking up the axle, you're jacking up the trailer.

Put the jack on the trailer frame, as close to the tire as you can get to do the work you need to do... changing tires, bearing care, etc.

Jack on the frame next to the axle to put the trailer up on jack stands. That's the strongest part of the frame, and it's designed to take the full weight of the trailer.

The problem with jacking at the corners is the twisting effect on the relatively lightweight frame of most small eggs. If you look at the frame pictures on some of the restoration threads, you can see how little reinforcement there is, especially at the rear.

Jacking should always be on the frame, close to the axle. Never jack up the axle itself. The axle is not designed to take that kind of external force.

I just happened to run across this, for all you Anderson fans and those who like the concept, but find the 4 "maximum lift insufficient. It looks like they make a companion product that gives up to 8" of lift, same principle. Not cheap, though, and I don't know what would happen to a low clearance trailer like my Scamp if you ran it off the back!

I normally camp in primitive or boondock sites and have never had a problem leveling my Casita with the Anderson Leveler, 4" s is enough. I have installed a large level on the belly band that I can see in the rear view mirror so I can normally move back or forward a few feet to find level then fine tune it with the Anderson, sometimes I my have to move over a foot or two but it's very simple to get near level. Before anyone asks, yes we travel all the west for several years and have had no problems with this setup.

Hello All,

For me the Bal leveler is a must. Here is my
Trillium 1300 in an otherwise unusable spot
leveled with the BAL and almost full extension
of the tongue jack.

If you are not physically able to manipulate the
BAL a good powerful cordless drill with the
appropiately sized socket attached can be used
to jack it up.
