Super sticky interior insulation!!!

Hey there folks!

I just picked up my trailer last night! wahoo! Where to start?!!!

One of the main things that I'd really like to fix is the interior insulation. It is SUPER STICKY! I'm guessing it's just from years of sun baking that the adhesive has bled through and made everything sticky.

I've tried GooGone and another cleaner and it just returns to sticky after it dries.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea how to fix it? I'd rather not replace the insulation... I'm not even sure that's what it's called!

What did you get? Congrats!
If it doesn't clean off I'd prime it with kills and give it a fresh coat of paint, kill two birds with one stone

Does the Eco have the same type of insulation as a Boler? If so than this thread talks about painting interiors

The sticky may be from cooking in the trailer. After just a year in my Scamp I have buildup of a sticky greasy residue because there is no cooking exhaust other than the roof vent. I'm in the process now of cleaning, and installling a range hood. Painting over a residue like this would not be a good idea IMO.

It appears that the ECO and Boler have the same type of insulation. I've done a few searches on painting ensolite, but haven't seen anyone else with the same problem that I have - SO STICKY!!!!!!

Kilz is the same stuff as Fire and Smoke Restoration companies use in stick built homes after there's been a fire. Have you ever tried to scrub soot? What a mess. Kilz will seal the area permamently...grunge, grease and all. First though do clean it as best you can. I'd use TSP or Tilex, rinse thoroughly and paint whatever color turns your crank!

It was hard work but it worked!! An electric scrub brush, hot water and Chlorix "Clean and Bleach" removed the stickiness. I applied hot water, sprayed the cleaner and used the brush on areas no bigger than a square foot. I found the suggestion on Fiberglass Rv about 2 years ago. I had to buy the electric scrub brush on-line as I couldn't find it locally. I was so happy with the results!

However, my walls are tacky again! I, too, thought it was cooking fumes/grease, but I have cooked very little on my stove. Perhaps the vinyl is slowly breaking down. Our Boler is 30 years old...

Would love to hear from other Boler owners.

I had the same issue with my 75 scamp, insulation so sticky from day one! I've tried TSP, bleach, and many other household cleaners with lots of elbow grease but no luck.
I too wish there was a simple solution to this problem. I also have no range hood.

Use Awesome cleaner from Dollar General.
Cost $1.00 a bottle, will cut greese like butter.

If it's really that sticky, maybe it will hold up wallpaper or something!

Butchers speedball original cleaner, it took 3 cleanings with my 76 1300, but it got ridof the sticky after PO 25+years of smoking and cooking

+1 on dollar store LA totally Awesome cleaner. Took all grime and most stickiness off my walls. Then primed and painted (re-did all seams in the process)
