Taking apart a 1978 Trillium 4500 rock guard
Hi, we are finally getting to our 1978 Trillium 4500 rock guard. We have decided to go with ABS Sheeting. Our question is has anyone taken apart one of these rock guards.
We have taken it off the trailer and taken out the middle stays by bending the old panels out (they were made with wood and plastic sheet glued together) We would like to be able to take a side of the frame apart so that we can slide everything back together and do a neat job. The corners appear to be crimped. How can we take it apart with out damaging it so we can put it together again?

MMMM, never seen a crimp like that before. Got a couple ideas but you would have determine about damaging it.
1, clamp the frame in a vice, use a block of wood against the inside edge of the short side and try a hammer to get it to slide out. A little heat may help.
2, drill out the dimples and rivet or bolt it back together.
Best I can do from a picture but you only need one short side off.

Do You have a complete picture of your rock gard?
If it's like mine, on the Trillium I had, You have not to open the corner, You risk to brake the frame, it's press fit assembly for the corners...
A Picture...

On mine, accidently I lost the three fiberglass original panels and the two separate aluminium rode.
I replaced the rode with aluminium "T" found in Home Depot, fixed with aluminium pop rivet at the extremity, and installed 3 plexi-glass to replace the fiberglass panels, fixed with clear silicone outdoor product.

Hi Gilles, We have all the pieces, we are trying to figure out how to get the panels back in. The frame looks like this before we took the panels out.

If it's the originals pieces, You have to find the little magic mouvement to do, to be able to out the first panel.
The tric is in the twist to turn one of the two separate rode.
I was in the direction to brake the frame when I have seen how it's well done.
I remembered me than You have to push a little bit on one rode and turn it a quarter, You will see the extremity of the rode is with a little special finition.
When You will find how turn the little rode You will be able to pull out the glass like a magicien...

How about skylight covers?
I would think something like this would work. Plus it should improve gas mileage. Truck drivers don't place them on their trucks/trailers for nothing.
