So here we are at Sharp Creek campground up on the Mogollon Rim, having escaped the "burning hell" of Sonora. It's nice and cool here at 6500 feet and we have no hookups in this cg, so the fridge is on propane.

Second or third morning we smell something burning outside the trailer. Opened up the refrigerator access door and wires are burning... the Sourdillon is leaking propane, the heat from the burner is igniting it and, well we caught it before it got really serious.

So my question is, can the Sourdillon be repaired or must we get a new one and if so, are they specific to the model or somewhat generic. Any ideas?

I downloaded the manual from BryantRV, but their website did not have this model listed.

BTW, the Mogollon Rim is a forested 7,000 ft escarpment that runs diagonally NW to SE across much of Arizona and into New Mexico. We were about 30 miles east of Payson on Highway 260, near Christopher Creek.

Depends on how much burned. Wire can be rewired. old reefers donot use circuit card so that make things easyer to fix. Soap bubble test gas connections to find leaks after your have fixed leaking connection.
good hunting

We tried the soap bubble test on the main gas line into the unit but couldn't see anything. The flames were under the Sourdillon; but of course, propane hugs the ground.

The electrical side went out about two years ago. The first time it went it was the heating unit; the second time the same fix didn't work. Concensus was the problem was in the control for the thermostat switch but since the propane side was working, why bother? We're usually not in campgrounds with hookups anyway. Hey, but now the other shoe has dropped.

The way this thing is installed, it's really hard to see if there is anything on the Sourdillon that could leak gas, especially underneath, other than the visible gas connections. Any ideas?

John,

Seems a little beyond the DIY stages. You might have someone check the LPG pressure, which is controled by the regulator at the tank. That would be something fixable without buying a new refrigerator. At this point I would have it looked at by a certified LPG guru.

I had no idea what a Sourdillon was so I googled it and found your answer on the first hit on rvmobile.com. Which gives a bit of an explanation and says:
"The Sourdillon control is a very unique piece of equipment. It is a combination thermostat (gas & electric), a safety valve, and a power selector, all in one. It's proven to be pretty reliable over the years. The only down side to it is if one part fails, the whole thing has to be changed."
