Theft?!
Food for thought folks-seen a post on a Boler site on Facebook about an individual that had their Egg stolen, right out of their driveway! This was an eye opener for us-made me think good and hard about the possibility.
We had a gentleman stop by the house the other evening, said he was just driving by, had seen a similar camper on "American Pickers", and asked if he could take a look. May have been completely on the up and up-however, after reading that someone recently had theirs stolen, we are now going to put a lock/ball device on our Great White Scamper!
If anyone else has a better idea on securing these, please let us know!

Over the years, I've read or heard about maybe six trailers being stolen. Out of the thousands that are owned, that's a small percentage. Of course, if it should happen to me... that makes it 100% !!
You can slow a trailer thief down by adding a coupler lock, cables/chains through a wheel and locked to a earth anchor, remove one tire/wheel, tire boot, etc., etc. However, if someone wants it, they're gonna get it!
Have good insurance, but don't let the worry keep you up at night.

We have always used a ball/tongue lock on the trailer whenever we are disconnected from the tow but I think that the biggest deterrent is having a vehicle parked in front of it. Left by itself someone could always wrap a chain around the tongue and yank the trailer away.

Know your neighbors!
I use a coupler lock, pin the coupler,2 wheel clubs and a huge cable around the axle.
If defeating all this does not alert my neighbors to the issue I need to think about moving!

Its not my neighbors that I'm worried about-its the folks that arent my neighbors, that are cruising neighborhoods looking for something to steal!!
I think we are going to try the tongue/ball lock-by then our noisy overweight Yorkie will be sounding off, if someone does try to take it!

I think Ed meant about "Get to know your neighbors," not so much because they might steal it, but because they'll help keep an eye on it. It's part of Neighbor Watch.
It's surprising how many people don't know their neighbors at all....

Exactly Donna!
I think the response from the O.P. says it all?
I want my neighbors to feel a sense of propriety about the outside of my house as I would for theirs.
No one out of place should go unnoticed ideally.
I have had people picking up my mail face the wrath of the long time neighbors more than once, just like I hoped.

I never HAVE liked poached eggs, but this sort of thing is no yolk!
Those who scramble with someone else's egg should not get over easy,in fact they should be toast, you know... In a real jam! They should be grilled until they rehash every detail of their crime and clear the table of the mess they'd made.

Another theft deterrent you could try is to put a cover on the trailer. No, it won't stop a thief, but it could help prevent the idea of taking it from entering his mind.
We also use a tongue lock, and have also insured our trailer for what we estimate its replacement value to be (ie: more than a stick-built trailer).

How about placing the tongue next to a large doghouse with a big chain looped out the doghouse door?

I like the doghouse idea..... Especially if the "house" is really huge...
On the other hand, we live on a street where the neighbors look out for each other, and would call or interfere if someone other than us was hooking up to the trailer, Lots of eyes around.

We have the best deterrent - live on an island. The incidence of theft of vehicles and/or trailers is zero. If one were to go missing the cops would just mosey down to the ferry lineup and wait for it to appear.

So what does a cop do on Pender Island all day? Play cards with the Maytag man?

I do not own one but I think this would make a good theft deterrent. It locks on the tire.

He watches out for dismembered feet washing up on shore.

(Dark humour...we've had more than a few cases of shoes, with feet inside them, washing up on the BC coast over the past few years.)

Oh well,
Lost a propane tank today. Trillium parked in the driveway on a major 4 lane street, tank went missing in broad daylight. Relatively full exchange tank. Guess I'll have to start locking them together.

On the way home from the corner store it hit me that the commercial building across the road catches my driveway on their security camera's. I'll have to check with them when the long weekend is over to see if we can ID anybody or vehicle.
