Does anyone know if a 4 cyl (2.5 ltr) Jeep Cherokee with manuel transmission will pull a 16' Scamp?:conf

Towing

Sue,

You will be a lot happier with at least a V6.

I have a 8 cyl GMC but it uses a lot more gas. I just bought the Scamp and haven't been able to try it yet.

Bigger is a little better

Sue, For awhile I pulled a 13' Burro with a Dodge Raider (4 cyl., 2.1 L). It pulled it O.K., but I really needed more oomph going over the Smoky Mountains. (On the long hills I had to use the truck lane...and the truckers were not happy with my speed!) I have switched to a Jeep Cherokee straight 6, 4L and it holds its speed on any hill. You might do O.K. on flat land, but on the big hills, you'd probably want more power. :)

Gas Mileage

I think that you will find that your gas mileage on your 2.5L will substantially drop when towing a 16'. On the other hand, your V8 probably won't lose that much.

In addition to aggrevating others, being underpowered can, in some circumstances be dangerous. Not to mention the strain that it will put on your engine, transmission, etc.

Since you have the option, try it with both. Then you can judge for yourself.

Thanks for the help

:) Thanks for the advice. At least I can be sure my 3/4 ton GMC will tow the 16' 95 Scamp. It already has a receiver hitch, but I still need to get a plug-in that matches the one on the trailer.
I had been looking at eggs and dreaming for couple of years. I was lucky to find this one (only 15 miles from home) advertised in the local paper.
