Trailer/Hitch Wire Setups

Hey Folks,

I'm changing out the trailer wire on my my hitch. The old one has this horrible wire covering that is coming apart with metal needles poking you when you mess with the wire. I was wondering if anyone out there could send me pics of their setups on the hitch to give me an idea. I've attached a pic of my current setup. Thanks!

I don't have any pics, but the braided cable is usually fairly strong. All I might be tempted on doing is covering the braid with the split cable wrap. Double the protection, no metal exposed and low cost.

In the scale business, we call what you have "armored" cable. We use it to deter rodents from eating the insulation off of the cabling under fully electronic truck scales. I know exactly what you are talking about in the handling of it.

I didn't think rodent proofing that cable was necessary.

Your trailer's pigtail looks to be in good condition. If the only problem is metal slivers getting into your hands, I would do nothing more than wrapping the existing cable with good electricians tape - 3M Scotch Super 33 is what I recommend. Other tape might work, but the results will not look as good or last as long.
