Trillium Outback Help

Hi,
I just bought a 2007 Trillium Outback today - I really just went to look - but she came home with me. I bought it from a 87 year old guy in the middle of nowhere and it needs some TLC.
I am hoping someone has some tips for a newbie regarding the following issues.
- The front screen/awning is totally stuck. The previous owner never opened it. It has 2 metal post springy do-hickies that I think are suppose to pull out.

- Mildew smell inside. What is a recommenced cleaner to clean the "carpet" insulation. I thought I start with vinegar. In a couple of spots the "carpet" is coming loose. What is recommended to glue it back up with?

- Outside needs a deep clean and polish. I have Barkeeps friend and Nufinish. Would that be OK to use on this material?

I would appreciate any tips!

Welcome Janne to FGRV, others will be along soon with answers for you. I don't think I would go the bar keepers friend route yet, just a good wash down for the outside. A 2007 unit may not need a BK wash. I would think cleaning up the inside, repacking the bearings, tires, checking for leaks and such and repairing them would be a better start than making it shinny first. Then go camping and enjoy it. Any mods can come later after you find what's right for you.

Thanks Dave,

Other than needing a new front jack with wheel it checks out structurally - previous owner was an engineer. After a nice hot bath with very expensive car shampoo the fiberglass still have the black mold spots and streaks. First issue to tackle is get rid of the inside and outside mold and mildew.

I used scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner on my ensolite. Worked like a charm. Sprayed down with a water bottle as I went to remove excess cleaner. You can get some mold and mildew specific cleaners at your local hardware store too. A little bleach/water never hurts or a water/vinegar solution.
As for ensolite repair, contact cement on the back of the ensolite and on the wall. Just make sure you have it lined up well before sticking it cause it will stick!

Welcome and good luck!

Mildew fight

I found a few leaks after a down pour last night that leaves moisture in the front and back storage compartments. The mildew has me concerned that there might be some pesky growths somewhere.

This camper has the sand colored rough carpet looking cover all over inside.
If it is not ensolite - any idea what it is?

It is referred to as "Rat Fur". Most who have it, like it. There is likely Reflectex, (sp?) under it.

I would not worry too much about mold. Most of what your trailer is made of will not rot. So, any mold you see will clean up nice.

A hand held carpet cleaner and some mold killing solution in it? I have a bissell green machine spot cleaner, something like that might work.

We recently got a 2008.
In a couple places the rat fur is coming loose.
Not sure how to get any adhesive behind it to put it back in place.
can you let me know if you got yours fixed and what you did?
Our also has a bit of a mildew smell. I think mostly because the roof fan had been left open while parked outside.
