Turbo MaxxFan

I currently (and probably the only Person) have an air conditioner on the roof of my 13ft Boler.
The trailer came up from Florida but here in Maine I no longer have the need for such an extravagance.
I am considering a Turbo MaxxFan.
The display in the store says that it can be put right over your existing vent.
I was wondering....Do I need to install a vent then put this Turbo MaxxFan over that???
Or do I just trim the hole where the air conditioner comes out and put the MaxxFan over the hole???

I did exactly that on a Jayco 16' -- Pulled the a/c and dropped in a standard RV vent (didn't know about the good vent fans...).

The hole should be the standard 14"x14" RV roof vent hole -- The vent/fan should come with inside and outside trim -- Likely you'll have to drill a few holes but that should be it.

Re-use the hole and adjust hole to size as needed...I have had to install oak or "plastic wood" spacers under the inside trim in single hull trailers usually 1".

Personally I would do both...the fans are great...sticky is an A/C thing, no fun spending an evening stuck to each other like slugs...the middle age wife in a hot flash is a formidable wild creature as I found out when I removed mine.

Hi: Harry/Gerry Et Al... My wife refers to "Hot flashes" as "Power surges" and they do come in handy in these days of "High Energy Costs". The MaxxFan was a necessary evil in our former Boler and also in our "Escape Hatch"!!!

Wife is done with that time in her life where she could heat up the camper just with a glance in the window and I like it cool when I sleep but the Colman 1200 will get the Boler 1300 down to frostbite temps in about 10 seconds, even on the lowest setting.
I've got my vent and now just waiting out this rainy spell, so I can wrestle the AC off the roof and put it in.
I will then go and get the Max Fan next spring just before the season starts but if I plan to use the camper this winter I do not want the weight on the roof when the fiberglass is frozen and britle.

Gerry, here's another topic addressing your question. It appears some suggest having two vents, one for the fan and one without. The theory why you'd want two sounds plausible to me. Especially if you boondock. It appears Scamp always cuts two holes when one is filled with a fan. Sheesh! Roof Vents

Well I finally did it. I got the AC off roof and the regular vent in.
Now I am not worried about going camping on below freezing days with that heavy AC unit on roof
bouncing around.
I was at the RV store and looked at the Terbo MaxxFan and talked to one of the installers at the shop and he said that I could save some money by just going with the Maxx fan.
This unit replaces your existing roof vent.
I could have gotten this unit and be ready to go for the price of $320 + install cost.
This has a 3 speed fan and a collapsable cover over the vent.
The unit I want to put in, utilizes an existing vent and the hood is shaped like a raceing helmet with the fan faceing down behind the opening. Cost at another dealer $303 + install
This ment that needed first to install a regular vent at a cost of $ 35 + install
Total (I installed myself) $338
Plus they may buy my AC unit off of me.
