My hitch tightener cam today and I'm going to be using it tomorrow. I did play with the hitch last week and there isn't much side to side movement but there is a lot of vertical play in mine so I think this is going to work great. I will report after I get back from my mini trip.

As cheap as I am, I'm thinking of ordering that tightener that Greg recommended. When you install it, be sure that it is in such a way that it is pulling the ball mount DOWN.

Thanks Kathy, it's really a simple device, and almost exactly like the one I made other than mine has a longer bottom plate.

I'm back from my first trip. I did use the Hitch Tightener and it worked well. I checked the tension on the lock nuts before I left the campground this morning and they were still nice and tight when I got home. It was much quieter. You can still feel a little bounce from the trailer but it doesn't jerk near as much and it also doesn't sound like you are destroying things back there.
