I'm going to replace the carpet along the top of my UHaul CT. I'm thinking a quilted strip of cloth. What glue have y'all found that works well for attaching the carpet strip to the top?

I'm about to do the same to my '85 Burro (very similar). I'm going to attempt to attach a strip of Reflectix insulation onto the fiberglass and attach a burlap ironed-on to a thick, flannel interfacing to the surface of the Reflectix. I'll remove any residue using a frequently rotated rag of acetone and apply a 3M contact cement to both surfaces. When both surfaces are dry, I will carefully align the surfaces and press them together. When the two surfaces touch, they are bonded and will have to be torn apart to move. I have yet to work out the concave issue at both ends but bought material that can be shaped and stretched to conform to the compound surface. I'll likely start by attaching down the center seam and working my way to the sides while stretching the surface of the material into the concave pockets. I'll give a full report when this theory is put to the test.

Karen, my VT has two, inch-wide strips of Velcro, one sewn at each edge of the headliner that run its entire length. The back of the hook side is attached to the edges of the gel coat insert with what looks like contact adhesive. That's what I used to fix a couple loose spots anyways.

It's kind of convenient to be able to peel it down to access the wiring up there, to the dome lights and rear tri-bar light thingy.

Regards,

Matt

I like that idea. I've done tons of velcro in my tear... thanks for sharing.

Uhaul carpet glue, adhesive

I had to glue back my carpetting after pulling it aside to rewire my marker lights. This is the product I used -- 3M 77 Spray adhesive. Worked well, gets tacky and gives you time to press it into place. Also it is still easy to pull the carpet back off if needed.

Yes, that 3M Super 77 is the stuff! I used it for my wall covering, but couldn't use it on my headliner due to the weight of my headliner. On the headliner I used Power Grab construction adhesive. That stuff is great, but I don't know how hard it would be to remove if you change your mind about the color or something...
