Hello Donna and Dana,
I've been so busy with the resto of my 13' Scamp, that I haven't been able to check this forum...
Thanks to Donna, I was able to do my research about axles/springs, et al, and ordered up a replacement from Dexter--with brakes
. And 15" wheels!
My "new" 1988 Scamp, though plenty dirty, was in pretty good shape. My wife insisted on replacing the carpet, so out came all of the interior fiberglass components. While doing so, I discovered how the rivets are used, and found many loose and leaking. I'm replacing ALL rivets with SS bolts, appropriate fittings and sealer.
With the interior gutted, I found that the electrical
system was woefully tattered, so I'm upgrading the wiring to include new connectors, an American converter, 110v breaker box, and LEDs wherever possible.
The gas lines were also funky (including the "old style" propane
tank), so these too will be straightened out.
I plan to replace the original 10 gal water tank with a 20; add an Atwood 6 gal water heater, and run new PEX to my upgraded "kitchen" module. I'm even adding an outdoor shower to the mix.
I want to get a 3-way Dometic refrigerator
(any comments/concerns about this option?), but not yet clear on the final location: I'm thinking of doing something custom with both the kitchen module and the front "bunk" component, to create more storage and functionality for the missus and me.
Biggest bummer: I can't buff out the shell to any high degree of luster. Any comments on painting
Well, I'm back to work on my little Scamp. Any thopughts from y'all would be greatly appreciated.
I've had to order some parts from Scamp. They were helpful enough. Ironically, I've found some of the same items at my local RV center for less...
