We have just enlarged the opening to install a new vent in our 13' Boler, replacing the original 9" metal vent. The new vent has 24 holes for rivets. Do you think we need to put that many in for a tight seal?

Absolutely. and use butly rubber tape, not the standard caulk that comes with the vent.
