Vintage Bigfoot 17 spec sheet?

I just went to get my title and it turns out they require me to either take the trailer out and weigh it, or to supply them with some kind of copy of something that looks official that states the trailer's weight. I hate Washington.

Anyway, does anyone know if there is something out there that can be downloaded/copied and printed by Bigfoot itself? I have the original owner's manual and there's no weight spec in there. I've got a spec sheet that might work from a "1988 RV Buyers Guide", but I can easily imagine them rejecting it because it wasn't printed up by Bigfoot... right before they tell me I need to get the trailer x-rayed and blessed by a state certified priest, I imagine.

Our 1988 BF 5th wheel has a spec sheet glued inside the closet door with the weights hand written on the form. Not sure if it would be sufficient for DMV. Can you take it to a truck scale for certified weight?

Both Bigfoots that I owned, L'il Bigfoot 1993 and 17CB 1993 have had a spec sheet glued to the inside of a closet door. They weren't really accurate, but were 'official'! Maybe there's a similar in the 1988 models, or glued inside the closet. Also, there is an 'official' sticker on the outside front driver's side of my 17, and similar on the L'il one. However, these get weathered and worn, but maybe a photo could be used.

NF: yes I could take it to a truck weigh, but the point is to avoid doing it, as it is a pointless waste of time, money, and gas. I can't think of any possible reason they could need the weight to sell me a license plate and charge me sales tax. Most states don't and no state makes you weigh your car.

You should have seen their Driver's License requirements: the list of needed documents was so stringent, I couldn't even get one for the first 6 months I lived here.

MP: good idea. I saved the closet door because I thought that sheet inside might be of some use, but then forgot about it. I'll bring the closet door to the Licensing office. Ha!

That must be terribly inconvenient for anyone who doesn't live there I mean, getting his trailer to Ohio for the weigh-in.

No weigh-in requirement for noncommercial trailers in CA. Not sure about commercial ones, though.

Not private passenger cars, but I have been present at vehicle scales when a customer needs a certified weight ticket for the DMV paperwork to register new commercial trucks or "livery" (taxis, shuttles, limos, buses) here in California. Commercial trailers fall under the PTI plate system.

Here in California, license fees are based on the depreciated value of the vehicle, but I remember the fees in New York were based on weight when I was a teenager getting my 1st driver's license. (back in the paleolithic era)

Yeah, I know a guy who has lived here for decades and he said you used to have to get ordinary pickup trucks weighed to get them licensed. Not only that, but you were supposed to put a big sticker on the side of your truck stating the weight. He said he refused to put it on and shortly after that, the law changed. I guess at least it isn't illegal to pump our own gas here.

I'm looking into importing a Bigfoot into the States. Was it difficult?

Ken, if you go to the Document center there is a Bigfoot brochure that has all the info you need. If you need more I can probably help you as I have more Brochures from Bigfoot too. Dennis

You're smart to look in to this before attempting to bring the trailer in, since even if you got it over the border, you'd find it impossible to register it in most States without the proper import paperwork.

Importing any vehicle requires certain paperwork...many folks use an agent specializing in such transactions but you can also do it yourself.
