Wanted Rock guard hydraulics Uhaul CT13
Hi Everyone- This is my first posting-
I've just purchased a Uhaul CT13 and am starting to get a few things together.I'm in search of 2 new or used 12" gas hydraulics for the front window rock guard.(to hold it open) I have the old ones and if they can be fixed I'd appreciate knowing how- or where I can buy new ones.
This is a great site and I'm looking forward to meeting a few folks-

There was some discussion about this on Uhaulcamper.com in the historical posts. I believe one issue was the length but also the power of the struts -- apparently most are way too powerful for this use as the rock shield is so light.
Good luck, and please post anything you find that works.

I dont know where they sell anything like that but id guess any automotive application will be way to strong, so stay away from them anyhow.
theres probably another camper with a simular shock or one that'll work if moved slightly......i'll look too...I want a spare.....bruce

My CT didn't have its rock guard, can you post a pic of yours, so I can see one and how it is attached?

I did see some promising struts on eBay fromone of the store sellers a couple months ago, but I got sidetracked with some other priorities. I think i may have a bookmark, though.
Somebody posted on uhaulcamper that they found them at camping world, but the ones that physically fit are 20 lb struts and we want maybe ten lbs tops.
The struts carry sockets that mate with a ball held on by a wire bail. I believe they are about 12 inches long when compressed.
Regards,
Matt

HI Matt-
I did find 12" 13lb struts on ebay and bought them- the weight pressure was good but the gas-chamber is about 1/2" too long-and I can't close the sheild- dang it-I'd have to reset the "ball fixture " on the windowframe- I've looked everywhere- I'm thinking of just keeping these and popping them on when I want the sheild up

This looked like the VT that's up for sale now. I had them both confused. Very Glossy!

My struts are not in good shape either, but no luck finding replacements. Currently, I have some zip ties loosely attached around the struts, and just slip some sticks into them to help hold up the rock guard. It actually works pretty well.
