Weight Limits for Front Bunks

I could not find anything using the search function, so I apologize for probably repeating a question or two here. Do any adults actually sleep on the top bunk in the 13 footers with the couch/bunk floorplan in the front? What are the weight limits for those bunks? Anyone know?

If I remember correctly, my Boler's top bunk is rated for 80#

I have a feeling a Scamp would be similar.

PS: That's not to say it would be impossible to make a top bunk strong enough to sleep an adult; I'm just speaking of the manufacturer's set-up.

I'm not privy to the history of my u-haul, but I replaced the support tubes on mine with 1 inch stainless tubing. Now it supports my 200 pounds with no problem at all.

Unlike some eggs, the wall side of the u-haul has considerable support. Some others have just a board bonded to the front wall. I have seen some of these boards broken loose.

There is a large fiberglass panel in the front. The huge hinge is fastened to that. See picture.

I think so too Roger. From the tip of ones nose to the bottom of the top bunk is somewhere around a foot. If a person has their head back next to the kitchen cabinet... it may remind someone of being in an MRI tube... without the noise! The smaller the child, the more comfortable the sleeping, but I'm not so sure I'd want to be stuffed in there.

80# in our Boler as well. The hinges on the wall side are just the ordinary butt type and I don,t think that they would hold an adults weight. On a trip to deliver our two children to university we travelled the two days with the Boler full of books and sundry belongings, for an overnight stop, and our daughter used the upper bunk. Response.... NEVER AGAIN!!!!! When camping with us thereafter she brought a tent and an air mattress. Cramped up against the ceiling she thought all night that she was going to fall of onto the floor.

That's similar to my memory of the bunk space allotted on board

They were stacked 3 high, with the most desirable one being the middle bunk and the least desirable being the top.

I was 50# lighter then and don't remember having a problem with it. It might be a different story today.

I think the weight limit of the upper bunk depends on the brand/age of the trailer. I heard from Tammy today and the weight limit on the Escapes is 200 pounds. I THINK Scamp has increased the weight limit on the newer trailers, but my 1988 has an 80 lb limit. I weighed that in grade school

Trillium bunk beds were rated at 200 lbs.
However, since some trailers were 'neglected' over the years - check that the lower window wood is still sound. If that window was leaking leaking for a long period of time, it may not be strong enough to hold a lot of weight. Many have replaced this wood, so if done correctly, it can support 200 lbs. again.
Trillium also had an optional bunk guard rail as an option. That will provide peace of mind from rolling out. I know of no incident where child or adult fell out.

New Trilliums also have a 200 lb. rating.
