I'm still kicking around the idea of towing a 16' Scamp with our Subaru Outback 3.0L. Scamp puts the basic weight of their 16 footer at 1750#, and the Subaru's tow capacity is listed as 3,000#. Tongue weight is within limits as well. I know that real Scamp weights are higher when normal options are added and by the time things are loaded up for travel. On paper, it would appear that there is plenty of margin for the extras that creep in that we just can't do without.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone with actual weights for a 16' Scamp, with toilet, shower, air conditioner, and empty tanks. I'm focusing on Scamps because they appear to be lighter than similarly equiped Casitas.

Thanks all!

My 2009 side dinette with front toilet-shower and AC weights 2700 lbs.
Tongue weight 325 lbs with no water in tank.
This was with no personal items.
Two 20 lb. propane tanks and a group 31 deep cycle battery.

Bill,

Exactly the numbers I'm interested in. That puts it too close to the limit for the Subaru in terms of overall weight, and exceeds their tongue weight limits. It's amazing the difference between reality and what Scamp publishes! We're not ready to move up to a larger tow vehicle, so I think we'll be enjoying our 13' for some time yet.

Thanks very much for your reply.
