Weight of early Scamp 13 trailer only

Anyone know the weight of the steel trailer that Scamp put under the early trailers?
I have an '81 and was wondering if an aluminum frame would come in lighter. I know the steel is minimal thickness at best. Just curious.

Scamp frames are not easy to swap out. The main weight with the frame is the axle hubs and tires and their weight won't change. The older frames used lighter metal than the current Scamp frames. IMO it isn't worth the effort.
There is a lady in FL. who installed aluminum frames under her Scamp trailers. I think I saw her advertise one on the Fiberglass RV for sale website recently. You might want to try to contact her and get info on the conversion.

This is not the trailer with an aluminum frame but I think she put an aluminum frame under a Scamp.

Not currently looking to change the frame, just wondering how much of the weight is frame only.

Early Scamp trailers were lighter, both in frame material thickness and in shell thickness. Early 13s had a 1200 pound axle (2200 today).
I doubt that an adequate aluminum frame would make a significant difference in overall weight, even on a new 13.
Just leave your boulder collection and concrete lawn decorations at home.

That's funny Floyd, every time we come back from the Quartszite rally I've got an extra 40+#s of rocks in the Ranger.

You wouldn't save enough weight (in fuel costs vs. an aluminum build) to offset a steel frame vs an aluminum frame. AND you know, it takes a different kind of welder to weld aluminum vs. steel.... right? Burro tried it and it was a major fail. Curious to see how the aluminum frame, and issues work for Oliver long term. All I know is I don't want to be stuck in some small town with a frame issue, and there's not someone that can weld aluminum... for miles around. Steel works.

Certainly does, and there's always someone, even in a small town, that has a welder and knows how to use it.
