Wet Bath Floor
Hi! Does anyone know where I can purchase a teak or bamboo slat insert for my shower floor? I know I won't find the size I need which is 18" x18", and if I find one, it can be cut to fit, but I'm needing it to be at least 2" high. I'm wanting to alleviate dangling feet while sitting on the throne. I know one can be made but I'm not that handy with tools! Thx!

Hi Jan, here's one from SeaTeak that would only require a bit to be cut off the ends. We have a larger one from the same company, although ours has a notch in it to fit the unique floor of the Escape 19. The one here is about 1.75" tall when it sits on the floor.
I know you said you're not handy with tools, but this would be a really simple mod- and would save you big money over a custom made one. All that's required is to remove one slat, trim the ends, and then dab on some Teak Oil. Voila! A custom 18x18 teak matt for under $70.

I have use teak and oak for the bath floor, I was not happy with either. Suggest that you look into a product call Dri-Dek. You can order from West Marine and it comes in many colors. Standard size is 12" x 12" and they lock together. Also easy to cut with a box knife.

Oak isn't suitable for the bathroom floor, but teak certainly is.
Dri-Dek won't look half as nice, and won't offer the height the OP requires either. It's also much harder on the feet when showering than smooth teak. But whatever.

I have a bamboo one in my new Escape but I haven't had it long enough to evaluate yet.
I've used Dri Dek in all my previous trailers. It works well but isn't exactly foot friendly, which is why I decided to try the bamboo.

Another vote for Dri-Dek . Almost 5 years in our trailer , thanks to another suggestion from a fellow forum member . Doesn't hurt our 71 year feet , used in boating industry . Have a real nice teak bench in one of our showers at home and it requires maintenance ,cleaning and reapplying teak oil . The Dri-Dek is about 5.00 per 12 in piece . A lot cheaper , pieces snap together ,easy to cut and comes in different colors . No worry stepping on with shoes , lift up wipe pan down . Don't get me wrong love teak , in fact made a small shelf next to our sink but for the floor love the Dri-Dek . Pat

I must be a "tenderfoot" Pat. They use Dri-Dek in lots of campground showers, and I find it uncomfortable. I usually wind up wearing flip flops then, even if they have signs saying no footwear in shower.
But back to the original post, she's looking for something 2 inches tall. A teak matt like the one I linked would foot the bill. As for maintenance, there's only a need to reapply teak oil if you want to keep the original appearance over time. Otherwise, teak simply grays but is still suitable.

I'm with you, Rob. It's not intolerable, just not "comfy".
I'm 83, BTW, so maybe it's just we oldies.

And some "not-so-oldies" Walt. I'm in my 50's.

For the height she needs ,the teak mat would solve that . Our little teak shelf just gets a little teak oil once in awhile but we have to really clean that bench at home first , I think because it is used every day as opposed to trailer use once in awhile . Robert you need to toughen up those feet ! Pat
