Maybe to support a tray? The tab looks level with the bar to the left. A triangle piece of decking (wood? mesh?) could possibly fit there.

Honestly, just a guess.

That tab it there to hold the anthelator that attaches to the muffler bearing that goes to the gizmo for the harmonic stabilizer for the front window!

As long as we're on the subject:

What's the purpose of that OTHER black tab on the framerail (upper left of the pic-frame just behind the shiny hardware )?

Not that it prolly matters...just wondering!

Francesca

It appears that metal tab maybe protection for your tank valve behind it, can not tell if it is vertical or horizontal?? If horizontal then perhaps there was another one on the other side and some sort of holder fit inside that space.

Only 1 unknown tab in front of propane tank.
The other tab holds 2 propane tanks in place. ( I only use 1 tank)
This has me stumped.

WAG #3 Ahaa.... I'll bet at one time, when there were two lp tanks being used, that the tab was part of the center tie down for the two tanks.

That's what I thought also. But the tab is NOT in the center. The 1 propane tank I have now is centered.
VERY INTERESTING ?????????????????

Did you look on the opposite side to see if there was any evidence of a matching tab having broken off and even been repainted over?

Yes, no signs of a tab.

Theory, given that your tank valve is there, and there was the option for a second tank, it's possibly that the tanks were secured independently, minimizing the need for extra fabrication and extra parts that may not be used and cost more.

So instead they could flip the mounting points around, mirroring the sides and only using one part that is already in stock, also allowing for the removal of the second tank with out disturbing the other tank to gain access to that dump valve.

Is there an option for a box or cover on the tongue? It might explain both tabs.
