WHERE TO BUY CLAM

Hello fellow campers. I am ready to buy a clam. Does anyone know the least expensive ( cheapest) place to get one that is in stock?
I am driving from Ottawa Ontario to Orlando next week and would like to pick one up along the way

I did notice that some sellers of Clam shelters on Amazon seem to be shipping them from an origin point in Minnesota. Perhaps that is where the company that makes them is located. Why don't you contact them through their website?

But another possibility is to arrange delivery to an Amazon locker location instead of buying one in person at a store. Some of the Amazon designated drop off locations can take larger sized items.

The cheapest place to buy is L&M Farm Supply but they are on line. Cabelas and Bass Pro carry them on line but are about $75. more expensive. You may be able to contact a store along your route and have them order one for you and you can pick it up at the store. I know Cabelas has free store delivery. If you going to use it in Fl. I would order the more expensive tan model. It is cooler in the sun and has better functioning optional side panels for rain.

We live close to Montreal, Repentigny, and we bought ours this spring during our trip to Maryland.

I asked the site Clam company to see where are located the dealers. There was one in Gloversville, in "Runnings Supply" which I checked directly with them by phone.

Us, model it was for the "Quick-Set Escape".
Locate a Dealer

(L & M Fleet supply had no the Escape model in stock.)

We have often used this summer and are satisfied.
Probably at our next release in the US, we will procure panels 3 against the wind ...

IF you have Amazon Prime, you can save about $100 on a Clam, but they have limited models. (Not that CLAM has so very many, anyway).

Cabella's also carries an all-gray model with extra features for about $100 MORE than average, made by CLAM exclusively for Cabella's.

You can, possibly also order a blue and white CLAM from CLAM directly, if you want to spend an hour coaxing them and pay an exorbitant shipping fee. I don't suggest this as a sure thing. But I wish they had more colors available. Their rep said they order something like 4800 at a time from their manufacturer in China, and NO store in the USA wants to stock anything but the brown, green, or Cabella's gray.

They're very dedicated to the hunters (and the fishermen with the ice shacks).

CLAM itself doesn't really retail these; they find other stores like Cabella's, Amazon, sports outlets, that retail them instead. CLAM does sell them online at CLAM. And they do deliver.

They look very solid and set up very quickly, but so far we've never seen one in person. That bothered us a bit.

So finally we bought a pop-up canopy at K-Mart, the Z-Shade in royal blue for $42. 26 pounds for the 8 x 8, 31 pounds for the 10 x 10 (base measurements with slanted legs.)

Two, ordinary 5 x 8 plastic tarps work great as side panels (and cost $2.98 each), and for now we're fine. No netting, though, and that could be a problem sometimes. I just couldn't get past the COST of the CLAM, the lack of ability to touch one in person, and the darn dark colors. Hunting green, or brown and tan, or for another $100 on top of the $200-300, dark gray.

Our set-up is white, black, light gray, and blue. I'm sorry I'm such a girl, but darn it, I want things to MATCH.

Since our last name starts with Z, the Z-shade (between weight, at 26 pounds, and cost, at $42) seemed like a great 2nd choice.

CLAM would've been first, except for the reasons above.

If you write them a letter, though, you might get a personal phone call like we did, very gratifying except no real solution to the various concerns, particularly the lack of matching colors. I know, I know.

Maybe one day, a CLAM. Kind of a wish list item for now.

We got our Clam very reasonably and quickly on Ana on Prime.
However, we did not have an easy time with set up or break down; the online customer service was terrific and we did have a signal or we might still be in the Clam!!! Our adult kids stayed in it in sleeping bags while we slept in our 2005 Casita Freedom and they were very comfortable in May Florida and NO bugs!

The key to setting up the Clam is to make sure you have the right end up. You will know this when you unfold it and see the loops on the hubs to pull out. If you don't, turn it upside down then step on the bottom flap and pull the loop till it pops out. Proceed around the Clam doing the same thing to each section , duck inside and pop the top up. Honestly no more than 45 seconds. To tear down re verse the process, pull the top down and pop in the sides in rotation. Trying to set it up inside out is not uncommon for the first time and won't work.

We have the 12'6" with attached sides that roll up, a picnic table fits inside. we just love it.

Well, kinda sorta 45 seconds. Because once you get it popped up in 45 seconds, you still need to spend a couple minutes pushing in stakes so it won't blow away.

I suspect the price is a misprint. Their website today says $179.99 rather than $129.99. Easy mistake to make, a 2 for a 7.

True, and if you count unpacking it and figuring out which way is up you add another minute or 2. But I bet I can " erect" it in less than 45 seconds
