wiring - brown green reed white (and black?)

Went to put a new 4-flat plug on the trailer this morning (the old one took a little water/ice damage last winter) and found a surprise. Well, not really surprised by anything I find hidden within the boler anymore....

anyway, the existing old plug used the brown/green/red/white wires (the white may have been a yellow at one time, kind of faded now if it was, or yellowing with age if it was white)

peeling back the sheathing a bit to get a good clean new connection point I found a black wire clipped and tucked away inside.

any idea what this was once used for? I know of 7 and 6 pin plugs, but never seen a 5 pin.

I am hoping that there is such a thing as a 5 pin, and that the new surprise wire is to wire up for battery charging.

any how, any ideas?

well, found 5-pin plug info. I was just a little impatient I guess...
I'll modify the question a bit then...

info I found on 5-pin plugs state the 5th pin is for hydraulic/electric brakes, could it be used as a 'hot' line for battery charging?

sure hope so cause I will be installing battery system soon!

These are the most common colour usages for a four, five or seven pin connector.

Adam, I see no reason why you can't use it for what ever you want to, since you don't have elec. brakes. Although it would be nice to have a single plug with a heavier wire for charging, just my opinion.

You might take a look at the Bolerama page on wiring at Wiring
It gives all the "correct" paths for Boler wiring and has the four-pin diagram available for upload...

I recieved emails re the black wire.
The information came from a wiring diagram for a 7 pin harness.

this is what I am hoping will work out. The next project is to install the battery system, along with the necessary connections for coach charging. So many new things to learn with this Boler!

The diagrams are looking good, thanks for the links. This will work well into my rear blinker not working problem as well. Great to kill two birds with one stone

When I rewired my 1978 Boler I found that the original wire colors did not match up with the now standardized trailer wire color codes so be sure to check which color wires actually connect to the fixtures.

I had the same problem , but with a test light you can work around most problems.
