I've refurbished at least 7 or 8 eggs since I retired.
I decided to remove the stripes on the side of my little Bigfoot today.
This is the only thing I've never done and it's a, I won't tell you what it is.
I did the search and came up with 1250 other threads.
Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way?
I spent the afternoon with a hair dryer and a razor scraper and removed one of the three stripes on one side.

my experience is that a heat gun makes the job go a lot faster than a hair dryer. I don't know how much hotter it gets than a standard hair dryer, but it makes a big difference in the ease of the job. maybe some one else will have other experiences... good luck!

Lose the razor scraper and get a plastic one, The metal one can harm the Gelcoat. The plastic one works just as well and you don't have to be as careful (read a bit faster).
Once the vinyl is off use waterless handcleaner to remove most of the residue, wipe it down with isoprpyl, then buff it with GelGloss or wax.
The best you can hope for is a little ghosting in the right light.
Or...
You could use one of these but BE CAREFUL!

A lot! but it is faster. A heat gun must be kept moving to avoid softening the gelcoat. That's when you really need the plastic scraper instead of metal or razor blade.

I used a hair dryer and it removed the newer 2" tape that covered the original tape.
The 3 original stripes are weather cracked and baked on to the fiberglass.
I borrowed a neighbors heat gun this morning and it did very little.
I was going to drive to Bakersfield to pick up a rubber eraser but the second day shipping cost is about 1/2 the cost of the gas for the trip.
Before $4.00 + gas I didn't think about making the trip.
I will let you all know how it worked out.

The 3M Stripe Remover wheel worked very well removing the 24 year old baked on stripes.
I used it in my 3/8 drill.
I ordered it from Amazon and was pleased with the price and even more pleased with the quick delivery.
I found I needed to lightly wet sand some of the area to remove some of the baked on, dried out glue from the tape.
I discovered another great use.
The top and bottom of the Belly band was sealed with 24 year old silicone.
The wheel removed the silicone with absolutely no problem.

I used the 3M Stripe Remover and was very pleased. Ran it off of my 1/2 inch drill which has a lower speed range than my 3/8 drill. ALWAYS good to hear about anything that removes silicone. Have that same belly band caulk as Perry J to remove so I will give that a try.
I won't tell you what it is.
