...I weld at my Trillium rear bumper a steel rack carrying a cooler and a battery box. Also a rear bike rack receiver, enough for 4 bicycles. Someone might think the Trillium has not enough tongue weight. Here is my measurement after welding extra rack and bicycle rack receiver. My Trillium is 13footer, model 1300: 1/ With cooler full of 75feet 50Amp extension cord and battery box with battery and few wheel blocks---> tongue wieght is 160 lbs...2/ With bicycle racks added without bicycle: 150lbs...3/ With 3 bicycles hanged on, tongue weight is 140lbs...

My experience with putting weight on the rear bumper.

Our first trailer was a 1982 Sunline, 15.5 feet in length. I mounted our plastic bumper box and placed an empty 41 pound generator in the box for a 100 mile test run before our first trailer trip to Labrador. Within 20 miles the trailer swayed. I stopped the sway immediately by activating the trailer brakes thru my brake controller's manual switch. In shorter order I again felt sway, nothing dramatic, but there none the less. I stopped the vehicle and moved the generator to a location over the axle, sway gone.

I learned weight belongs over the axle. Since that day I've never had a sway experience.

That's unfortunate. I assume you're stuck with this rack so that you can take the bikes on day trips with the Jeep while the trailer stays in camp. Can the hitch on the back of the trailer be positioned further forward (over the bumper to get ahead of it if necessary) to move the bike and rack weight as close to the trailer body as possible? How about a removable rack extension?

I would rather put effort and money into preventing a sway-producing problem than into trying to control it after letting it happen.
