Hey everybody! Just made an account here to get some fiberglass repair advice. I totally smashed it into a tree when towing it in, it’s horrible.

Got a quote from a repair guy here in Seattle for $3k!!

Any advice on repairing this myself for a first time fiberglass project? Will the dented part pop back into shape? I can get a tire iron in there but it won’t pop out. Cut a hole on the inside and push out? Use one of those air bags for hanging doors?

I should mention I’m full timing in an aristocrat lo liner but just upgraded to this! I pay rent on the side of a house. May this be my escape plan!

Ouch! Is that a big dent too? it will probably be able to be pushed back into shape. The tears can be fused back together with fiberglass. There are a lot of tutorials on youtube that will show you the basics of fiberglass repair. That is what I did when I took on a couple of large fiberglass modifications on my Casita travel trailer.

The main thing I learned that I can pass on is to use epoxy resin rather than polyurethane resin. The reason is that the epoxy resin bonds better to other materials including old polyurethane based fiberglass. I also used a slow cure epoxy resin which gave me more time to work the material and according to the label, made an even stronger bond than the faster cure epoxy resins.

On your question about the dent, you can probably put a jacking post from the inside to push it out. Make sure that your floor is solid enough to take the pressure.

Another possibility in your case is to drill a hole in the middle of the dent and then put a 2X4 spanning across the dent with a similar hole on the upper side. You can then insert a piece of all-thread rod through the holes with nuts and washers one either end. About 1/2" rods I would say. You can then tighten either of the nuts which will pull the dent back into shape. Once done, you can fiberglass the hole while you are doing the other fiberglass repairs.

Trade your time and effort for cash. Be creative, and you can fix for less.

A hydraulic floor jack, a 4x4 and a strong enough floor to take the load sound like the next step.
