1969 Trailswest Campster Reborn

Thought you might be interested in seeing pics of my latest "recreation."

This 1969 Trailswest Campster (cousin to Hunters, the Compact family, and others) was in pretty rough shape when I got it, but it's amazing what a little Armor-All can do...

Here's what it looked like when I got 'er...

The "rebirth" began: Frame off renovation. All exterior fiberglass repaired as needed. New paint. Frame and suspension restored to "new" condition. Interior completely gutted and blasted with pressure washer. New subfloor.

And now she looks like this on the outside...

Robert, I do so love your work! I'm close to getting "Bean" back---we had alittle sanfu---my "guy" was hoping to find the trim for the front and back windows here in town, but no luck. Have to order.

So----what did you use for your floor? Very fun! My kind of colors!

Some details of the galley and cabin...

All new cabinetry throughout; wiring and plumbing; sink, cooktop and spout. The refrigerator (chosen by the new owners) is an Avanti "Superconductor" that runs on 110V or 12V (about 1/3 the cost of a Dometic). The flooring is actually "last year's" display samples of Marmoleum tiles I picked up very cheaply at a local flooring store. 12V LED light fixtures illuminate the galley and the cabin.

Some details for you hardcore fans...

The windows and door were all dismantled and refurbished—new glass, pulls and felt channels, etc. All new insulation (reflectix) and wallcovering inside.

The pop-top was repaired and rebuilt with new hardware and springs. The vinyl collar was restored to it's original condition.

The frame and original wheels were sandblasted and powdered-coated. Repacked bearings and new shock absorbers. New propane tank and onboard battery.

The red exterior paint is sprayed DuraBak, which has a rubberized finish—great for rock protection.

The only things not redone were the cushions and window coverings—so the new owners can have some of the fun making it their own...

A question: Where did you use the Armorall? I tend to run askeered of it because it contains silicone. If you used it on the shell I'm curious if you ran into any trouble when you painted? (Or maybe you used it elsewhere? I couldn't tell from the photos/text)

I really like Marmoleum, and linoleum in general. Glad it's "back."

Much coolness

FYI: "Lobo" is a custom decal I made specifically for the new owners...

Those taillights are incandecent "Giant 7" Stop & Tail Lights" (part#499-01-122) from the Arrow Safety Device company.
