start of shaving outside.

I filled the crevasse with the first fill of peanut butter. My local fiberglass shop was out short strand pre-cut so I had to cut up stuff myself. I should have waited for some to come in. What a pain.

Bondo glass

I used bondo glass short fiber fill to smooth out the low spots in the crevasse. This is so I had a smooth surface for the next step.

Plywood banding

Although I was informed that two layers of structural glass with then a third glass filler would be plenty strong to shave the band. My paranoia got the best of me I decided I would resin on 1/8th birch plywood on to ensure no movement. I drilled through the shell and screwed through the plywood into 2x4 chunks to keep it secured to shell till it dried.

fiberglass over plywood

The next step was to fiberglass over the 4" plywood with just one layer of 6" glass. Now to shave the band tonight.

Belly band shaved

Well belly band is shaved and now sanding down. Used the angle grinder with cut disks to cut off the band. Then used the sanding disk on the grinder to take down all the high spots and start smoothing out. Learned to be very careful with cutting disks. I made a bit more work of filling for myself.
