1975 Boler Complete Restoration....my once in a lifetime project!

At last, it feels like this 1975 Boler that was purchased in 2011, will be completed and find a second life! At $850, it was the perfect restoration project! As you can see from the photos, the interior was not in usable condition. The couple we bought it from had basically used it as a trailer to tow possessions during their various moves.

The outside was in decent shape but the plan was to do a complete restoration inside and out. Just glad that it was towable!

Congrats on your boler, I just went thru this last winter and it was a great project, as we took ours from AB to Winnipeg to the 50'th. Now Im working on a 1977 Trillium which is also a great project.

As for yours what are you planning to put on the walls? If you are tring t find new ensolite good luck as there is none to be found just a heads up on that.

Now to tackle the adhesive from the old insulation. An oscillating saw took care of a lot of it but nothing like a pressure washer to take care of the rest!

Hi Mensie,
Stay tuned...I'm quite a bit further along from these photos. Just haven't posted until now. To answer your question...I now have 1" of spray foam insulation and will be covering that with 3 mm thick bendable poplar plywood

While the rivets served a purpose to attach the interior fibreglass components, they aren't strong and a potential source of leaking. No plans to use them in the future. All rivets were removed for holes to be patched. Also, like many Bolers, there was a crack in the body near the door...to be repaired.

Great photos of your work--the holes where the rivets came out and the crack are clearly visible...how satisfying it is to watch it as you work on it, and to have it done when you are! You're saving something worth the work. I love that you call it a "once in a lifetime" project...our 1973 amerigo is probably our once-in-a-lifetime as well; we're done with it, and I shudder now when I see them for sale as there is no way I want to do that again...but it was an intense, hideous, and glorious experience to do it once!

BEST
Kathleen

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. As I said earlier, I'm quite a bit further along and will keep posting over the next while to bring things up to date.

Hi Kathleen,
Well put!! This project turned into something much bigger than I ever expected!! However, I tell myself this is a project of a lifetime, it will be done the way I have pictured in my head with very little compromise and one that we will enjoy for the time we're meant to enjoy it! Completely a labour of love

Now, off to a shop for fibreglass and frame repair (including powder coating) and axle replacement. I asked for all of the rivet holes to be filled and the holes for the vents to be patched since I wasn't going to replace the furnace and planned to replace the 3-way fridge with a Nova Kool, 12 V/120 V fridge. Also had 1/2" plywood fibreglassed to the floor since it was only the original fiberglass...not a very strong floor. A very sad looking trailer when we towed it out to the shop...
