1979 Scamp Remodel Update

So I spent the mandatory 2 hours at the laundromat tonight (front load machine) and washed all 7 foam cushions. For 36 years old they came out very well. I am thinking of covering them with Dacron before I put them in the new covers. Has anyone done this before?

Pluses or minuses to the Dacron?

Also, does any one know the original placement of a water heater back in 1979?

Dave

What is your thinking for covering the foam with Dacron?

Most all good upholsters use a layer or so of 1/2 inch Dacron on seat cushions when they recover them. It gives it a more finished and rounded look and provides an extra layer of protection for the foam. It also breathes well.

In my case with 36 year old foam in fairly good shape it probably could only help.

Thanks for the answer, I've never heard that before. The extra material can only help the stock feel. Let us know how it works out too.

A couple of years ago I reupholstered the cushions in our '65 Nomad. I suspect the cushion foam was that old too. I did wrap mine with the Dacron and was very happy I did. It just gives the foam a little more padding and very comfy to sit on. Nancy

When a friend of ours (in the upholstery business) made new cushions for my son's
older pop-up camper, she covered the new "N36" foam in Dacron.

I opened a zipper on one of our home sofa cushions and saw a white covering (Dacron?)
on the foam of those cushions as well.

Is there any easy technique for correct sizing and construction of the Dacron covers?

Ray

Ray,

If you look on U Tube there are videos of how to do it.

Ray, what I did was go to my nearest fabric store and bought the Dacron by the yard. All I did with it was wrap it around the cushion. It just kinda grabs onto the foam.
