Smile 1985 uhaul

Hi! I'm a new member and have a uhaul that's in really good shape but my tail lights are falling apart. Anyone out there got any advice on modifying or replacing them?

Replacement lenses are not available. Uhaul truck parts had some aluminum adapters to convert them to a standard readily available round light. Not very expensive but they do change the look of the trailer. uhaultruckparts.com, go to miscellaneous parts and they are listed under camper parts.

Welcome to the family Norma! Go on-line under Uhaul truck parts, look for the misc parts / camper parts, it's listed as replacement taillight housing-priced $11.74 ea. You can also purchase the 4" light inserts for $7.73 ea. I purchased a set of these last year, have not needed to use them yet; just setting in the garage looking pretty in case I do down the road. You might also consider purchasing new hubs while they have them...Best of luck, George

I too have a set of the light adapters "just in case", also bought a set of hubs, one of them is bolted to the spare wheel that we carry in the tow vehicle. The hubs are common to some cars so can be purchased at an auto parts store, that info I believe is in the document center.

Hi Norma to FiberglassRV, we're glad you're here!

As you've found, we have bunches of kind and helpful people on the forums.

Have any pictures to share?

If the original tail lights are in any kind of shape at all... DON'T throw them away.

Amen. We may eventually have a source for lenses.

Thumbs down Replacement tailights

Just received my new replacement tailights for my uhaul ct -13. Gotta say they were not what I expected. I don't like the way they stick out and just don't blend very well with the fiberglass body? Anyone else thinking of buying them just keep this in mind. My husband used to do some body work and is going to do some modifications to put in some lights that hopefully blend better. Will send in some picks when finished.

Look into using '80's GM pickup truck lights, and there are similar Bargman tail lights I've seen on ebay that I think are used on some motor homes. I put a hitch receiver on the rear of our Uhaul for a bike rack. The bike rack has stop/turn/tail lights on it, and when I don't use the bike rack I have another light setup that mounts in the receiver so either way I have an extra set of lights on the rear.

These are the aluminum castings, right? Yea, not pretty, but functional. I wonder what happened to the lens making effort that showed promise a while back.
