7 pin connector protective cover at campsite

I wanted to keep my trailer's 7 pin connector dry and clean while camping. First I tried a baggie, but wanted something a bit easier and effective. I needed to buy an new plug anyway as you can see the inner conductors in the pictures where the cable jacket pulled away from the plug. So I just bought a set of male and female parts for about a dollar more. I cleaned out the guts of the socket and attached it to the bottom of my tongue mounted storage box. Now the plug stays off the ground and mostly dry. I admit its a bit crude. Hopefully it will serve. Now to rewire the plug, hopefully while camped on a lakeshore or such. Just have to remember to switch sockets for departure.

Coat the contacts (M & FM) with dielectric grease. It will keep the contacts from corroding.

I found a gadget on Camping Worlds close-out table a few years back. Others have asked about it but I can't find it anywhere anymore. Your solution is pretty tidy as well.

FWIW, just in terms of closing the loop, I finally found the gadget I use: Plug Guard. About $10 and still available here and there on the web. I've used mine for about 5 years without issue. It has a spring loaded cover that grabs and holds the male plug like the fitting the tow vehicle has.

They make a molded plastic holder . It holds the 7 pin connector in a vertical position with the contact openings facing down . The 7 pin connector just slides into the holder . Cost is under $4 . It attaches to the trailer frame with 2 SS screws which are provided

Joy A. came up with this using PVC pipe. She clamped hers. I bolted mine.
