Add on room

While exploring the www I ran across an interesting product. Its an awning encloser , both screen and drop down flap , that looks like it would work on the casita awnings. The web site is http://www.fiamma.com/catalog/florida_room.htm Has anyone seen one of these rooms on a casita or know anything about them?:wave

Hi Larry!

Hi Larry! Looks interesting!

Hey, your link had an extra period in it ... so I'm reposting a workable link:

Looking

Looking at the pictures, it appears that the room comes with some extra rafters ... particularly on the sides because most small trailer awnings arms accordian out. The one picture shows the typical bent arms ... but then appears to have some sort of side rafters.

In the last five minutes, I've called Pam into the computer room to look at the Upton's pop-up screen room ... and now back in to look at your screen room.

Hi Charles and Pam -- Requested a catalog from fiamma and hope to learn more. The enclosure looks to be pretty costly but I haven't seen anything close to it and maybe worth it if it is quality made , fits , and stores easily. I'll post on this again after I get a chance to review the catalog .:)

There's a thread on the Casita Forum about this product, I believe.

Fiamma Units

I have one of the Fiamma awnings and add-a-room on my restored '71 VW Camper. They are an excellent product but pricey(sp?).Awning(10 foot) is around $600 USD and the add-a-room about the same again. For the 13 foot Boler I will be getting an 8 foot unit and expect to pay slightly less.Main ordering from Orlando Fla.As a note the units have an option called ,I believe a rubber dam. This attaches to the back of the main unit and under normal circumstances stops water from rolling in past the main part of the awning where it attaches to the trailer.Based on the normal curvature of most of our units this may pose a problem as the company is not sure their product is deep enough to cover the exagerated roll of the Boler or ? Anyways I will be going down to see them within the next couple of months and see what can be done.If anyone is interested I will post my results when I get back.

This company is the original equipment screenroom manufacturer for Casita. They have a rep for high quality, long lasting products.

Sun Shade

Has anyone had any up close and personal experience with the Kelty sun shade?

No screen, but sure looks cool! Packs to small, convenient storage, too...

Ian Eddy

We met up with Ian and Jenny Eddy in Vermont this past summer on our way to Nova Scotia (in addition to meeting up with Nathan and Daisy J in New Hampshire and Mary Foster and Skip at her favorite campground located ...).

Anyway, the night we spent with the Eddy's would have be a complete wash-out due to rain had Ian not whipped out the LLBean version of something similar to the Kelty sun shade.

Don't know what the open flap tent thingie was called ... but we were able to sit under in, in a pouring rain storm, with a roaring fire just outside the edge of the tent opening.

I'd forgotten about it Mary ... thanks ... I was going to look into getting one ... the Kelty looks very similar.

Thanks Ken!

Thanks Ken!

Yup, that's the one (sucker was big enough for 4 folks to sit under ... and still stay out of wind-driven rain. Unlike screen rooms which rock and roll in the wind, the wind just rolled straight through.

I checked out your link ... and the LLBean site said it was big enough to go over a picnic table. It probably was!

Maybe I'll ask Santa for one ... because it really saved the evening for us ...

Imagine it would be good on the beach in the summer, too.

Shelter

According to the web site, you can spread the legs apart or move them closer together to change the configuration, low and wide or high and narrow, to suit the need. Very versatile.

LL Bean vs. Kelty

I actually saw the LL Bean version first (in a catalog), but when I looked around, found the Kelty.
Or should I say Kelties? Kelty makes three sizes.
(Of course, I want the biggest, most expensive one...
which is why I still want it, don't have it!)

Thanks, Ken, for the LL Bean pic!

Sun shade

Mary;

Try Sierra Surplus. They had them in August when we stopped in.

The Moss ones are good too.
