I put the Compact II up on a straight axle with 14" size wheels. These are alloy, 5 on 4 1/2" zero offset trailer wheels with new 205 ST tires. The total increase in heighth was 4 1/2".

e-trailer.com has a pretty good selection plus they will mount balance and ship for free. I bought their 5 spoke aluminums and am very happy with them. I will post a pic later.

Steve,

Did you have to choose one of their "pre-paired" wheel/tire combos, or will tire rack allow you to choose the wheels and tires you'd like and then mount/balance that combo?

Thanks,

Ben

Actually I was in desperate need of tires when I bought my 5er last summer while I was up in Washington. I looked hi and low for wheels that I liked but couldn't come up with any. I bought my tires at Discount tire and had them mounted on the gross wheels that were on the trailer when I bought it. When I got home to vegas I looked again for wheels and found the ones I bought at e-trailer.com. I only bought wheels (delivered free) but Discount was nice enough to remount my tires on the new wheels for the cost of metal valve stems. While I was shopping for wheels I noticed that e-trailer had the wheels I liked with tires mounted, balanced, and shipped for cheaper than I could have bought them anywhere else. I wish I had went there first as it would have saved me a lot of money.

I like etrailer, I've had a few issues with parts (not their fault), and they were good to deal with on it.

Mine are ultra nomad wheels. Just by pure luck, while searching for trailer wheels, I found they made trailer wheels that matched the ones I put on my truck. I took it as a sign. There were only two left in the country at the time.

The 15x6 wheels fit perfectly.

Not sure if you could call them after market, since they are only available from the manufacture. The picture is from TrilliumRV.com, so I hope this is not a problem.

I think it's cool how the wheel matches the logo.

I can't find any whitewall trailer tires- any suggestions?

I am going to repaint (black or red) my old rusty '79 Scamp rims and add chrome baby moons. White walls would compliment them

Check out Portawalls, lots of hotrodders do this to add white walls to tires: portawalls

Hi: All...New rims $75ea. New tires $75ea. They're after mkt. RV wheels; real American chrome, not Korean Aluminium.

So are you guys running regular car tires on your trailers? I have a 96 scamp 16' and was wondering if I could run car tires on it. Sorry I need to do an intro but at work and on my phone lol don't tell the boss!

I would not run car tires. Trailer tires are cheaper, and the correct tool for the job. Some people I know run truck tires.

Welcome to the forum Ryan.

You can use car tires, but it's just a blow out waiting to happen.
I can tell you that from experience. I didn't put them on a trailer,
but I put some on a half ton pick-up. When I quit a rock band, I
used my pickup to haul my organ and Kustom250 amp home from
the dance hall, BIG blowout. Now that was a scary ride. A camper
would be even a bigger risk.

Trailer tires have heavier side walls. Car tires have thin side walls.

Just not a good idea to chance it. Like Dave says, they are cheaper
and designed for the job.

This is a controversial topic. I strongly recommend doing a search in the forum for past discussions, and starting a new thread for any additional tire discussion rather than sidetracking this wheel thread.

Perhaps a moderator could move the above three posts to a new thread and delete this post?

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

No, no, and NO!

P-metric tires are wrong for towing, as I found out the hard way. My trailer came to me with brand spankin' new ones and the trailer was all over the road 'til I replaced them with ST's.

Construction of ST tires is different from that for passenger vehicles. More info at this link and elsewhere on the web.

By the way: ST tires don't come in whitewalls, so recommend add-ons as recommended above for those that want both correct tires and the whitewall "look".

Francesca
