Allure flooring. Install <65 degrees F?

The weather refuses to cooperate on the weekends..... It's the only time I have to wrk on things. The allure vinyl flooring says to install above 65 degrees F. Guessing that expansion/contraction is the primary reason. Any other red flags if I jump in and do it at 50 degrees?

After all, it will experience these temps once it's installed.....plus it's a floating floor. It's been sitting in the camper so all the pieces will will be at the installed temp ( same expansion potential, right?).

I see no issue as long as it had been stored in the place it will be installed. Just remember to allow some expansion area, have you purchased the install kit, it really helps??

Thanks. I didn't get the kit but am not far from the Home Depot so will perhaps grab one today then. Yep. Expansion space :-)

Glue kind or locking kind? It could be the glue doesn't hold as well at lower temps. Though I think I did mine at about 50.

If you are using the Allure with the glue strips, you can do it at your temp. The big thing is it is more flexible at warmer temps. I didn't know they had an installation kit. Didn't use one when I put mine in the house. I still have the trailer to do.

Donna. That's why I didn't dig in yesterday. My Patience is getting thin with this "spring" though ;-). Darn full-time employment gets in the way too! Lol

I understand Tonia, I'm still working too so I only have weekends to work on my trailer. Sometimes I'm so tired I can't even take advantage of Saturday and Sunday. That's why I'd wait. If I barely have the energy/time to do it once, would I have it in me to do it over?

Go sew curtains or look at a map atlas and plan a trip! You can do that inside by the fire

What's in the install kit?

several odd shaped metal pieces for use with a hammer in those places where you can not fit a whole piece, around the perimeter. these will pull the boards in without damaging them, sold where the floors are sold.

cpa, I'm wondering if you are mixing allure which is linoleum and sticks together with contact cement and requires just a utility knife (and an optional heat gun or blow dryer to loosen the contact cement in case of a booboo) and laminate flooring which snaps together and in many cases your install kit comes in handy for tapping stubborn joints.

Tonia, just install it and have a hair dryer handy for releasing and setting the joints. The temperatures called out are for expansion and contraction but as small as the area your dealing with is nil, I've done a few floors in both types. the expansion thing is for like 10'X10' rooms. you will need your square footage plus add 15-20%. I thought Allure was the wood floor? Mine is wood, not linoleum and not tile, but you cut with a power saw.Sorry for the mix up. Mine clicks together with each other, no glue, thus the need to bang into place.

Does Allure still have the problem with "never ending smell" that plagued it in the past?

I just laid mine a couple of months ago; no odor. But I bought it about five years ago!

In our kitchen I only noticed a rubber type smell for a very short time. Couple of days?

Warm weather will make the glue sides easier to work with. You could put an electric space heater in the trailer to warm things up....or wait for the elusive sun to warm up the trailer.

We also used a roller type thing to put pressure on the glue sides...oh wait we bought that after doing the allure and wished we had it for the allure. I think we just kept walking on the seams in the kitchen to put some weight on the glue parts.

Well. Tomorrow is the day. Flooring is going in....I may have to run between the rain drops and work by the serenade of thunder, but it's warm :-)


I didn't notice a smell out of the box. I hope smell isn't an issue! There's already a distinct smell (not odor) in the Scamp.....like sleeping inside a cooler or refrigerator full of dryer sheets ( I "winterized" with those).
