Alternate tail lights for Scamp?

The stock ones are a little cheap looking, stick out a lot.

I'd love to find some trim, sleek LED based taillights. Maybe a little more rounded.

Seems there's plenty of options, but I don't see any that stand out as ideal, most of the sleek ones are a bit small.

Some people are using the 7" round LED bus stop tail lights. They are flush mounted to the body and only stick out about 3/4 ". You have to run seperate wires for your plate light and mount your plates seperately.

I've purchased two sets from Chuck and Deb. Easy to install, work well and look great.

Check out my 7" LED RED Tail/turn/stop lights before ordering from someone else. I ship for free over $50.00. The lights are perfect for a Scamp or Boler. I just installed a set on a 85 U-Haul.

I'll certainly consider those. I guess I want something between rectangular and perfectly round. Like a Scamp! Not a box, not a sphere, somewhere inbetween.

But I'm not seeing anything like that in a size I think appropriate. So round might work.

I think I'm overcomplecating my remodel. Too many undone things on this trailer to start replacing more currently functional items. But once my current projects are wrapping up I'll look at the lights again.

I do have an oval exterior light to replace the stock rectangular one.

Chuck, I'm curious how you did this, as the UHaul tail lights are wrap around. Did you just add additional round lights?

So I gather people are just doing without the backup lights? If so, what happens when you go into reverse? Or am I misunderstanding?

I go backwards.

If it's real dark, I get my navigator to guide me. No navigator, I back up a bit at a time and go back and look for myself.

On a more serious note Fran,

The lighting requirements vary with the size of trailer and location. The height and length of your 5th might require something different than some of our smaller ones do. Hopefully somebody knows the specs and will post them here.

What a comedien! We need a 'bad-a-boom' emoticon!

Actually, I never thought about specific requirements base on size of the trailer...but there probably are. We try not to tow after dark so probably wouldn't really used the backup lights to actually SEE anything. But if there IS a regulation....
Our tail lights are a rounded off rectangle...not sure if the round ones would look right. Has anyone done this switch?

I don't see anything about backup lights in this document that explains requirements for both the USA and Canada with diagrams.

Thanks - I have not been able to find anything either that says a trailer must have backup lights. Hmmmm.

In California, backup lights are not required. But taillight/marker light requirements do change when a trailer reaches 80" in width.

Fran you should be able to find a rectangular LED light that looks more like what you have. I seem to recall seeing people people posting photos here of some they have done.

The lack of back ups with a trailer is not a big issue as even if you had them you can not see through to the back of the trailer so they really would not be of any great help while backing up in the dark.
