I'm getting close now. I've got the fold down dinette table top finished & installed.

I had initially planned to replace the original table as it had a few issues but in the end it was easier to repair & reuse it.

Even though I tried to make the cabinets & seat benches identical to the originals when I went to put the table top between the dinette benches I found that the top was actually 1/2" wider than the opening between the benches. This turned out to be a blessing as now I could cut the top down & clean up the chipped formica edges. I found some "T" molding on ebay to replace the original molding that had 45 years worth of cuts, bumps & gouges in it.

The next issue was with the "Lif-Table" hardware. I noticed in the few times I used it before the tear down that in the down position the top didn't sit all the way down on the benches. I had to pull the support bar out of the lower wall brackets so it could drop down the extra inch it needed. To fix that I could have mounted the wall brackets about an inch lower however the screws for the lower holes in all 4 of the brackets would now miss the supports behind the paneling. The thoughts of redoing the framing under the window wasn't making me happy so I went with my other option, making a different swinging bar with a little longer travel to it. I also changed the ends to being bent inwards so the upper mounts were closer together, this got the upper wall bracket off of the seam in the wall paneling. The new bar is the silver colored one in the last picture.

The list of things to do has gotten smaller now so hopefully we'll be camping in the amerigo soon instead of just working on it. It doesn't seem like it but it's been nearly 2 years since I started on this project......

I wired & installed the LED third brake light today along with the strobe flasher module for it. I did mount the light inside the rear window as I didn't really want to drill holes & create more possible places for water to get in.

Hopefully it will get the attention of those texting on their phones behind me so they know when to step on the whoa pedal.

The light is a standard trailer 23 LED tail/brake light.
The strobe module I found on ebay for under $2.00 : https://www.ebay.com/itm/GS-100A-Fla...19.m1438.l2649

The module is pretty straight forward to wire in but note they are just for LED lights.
Here's a video of it in operation: https://youtu.be/1a3ZdPlT030

You will certainly attract drivers attention. I used those lights in the belly belt for signalling my intentions of braking or turning and running lights.

Just an quick update on the amerigo progress.

We did take it out last week for trip & that was good motivation to tie up some loose ends that kept getting put off (by me!).

With the exception of one of the repaired window push out levers coming off everything else held up well. I'll have to look at those window latches & see if I can come up with a better repair this winter.

I did find some material that was a good match for the lower cushions so I made 2 new dinette seat backs to finish that off. I also got the curtains cut to length & sewn up thanks to my wife. It's amazing how getting those little jobs done can help make the big project feel finished.

Here's a few other interior pics.

Next I need to figure out something for the large back window. The gaucho seat cushion top actually comes up just above the bottom of the window so any curtains wouldn't lay right there. I'll probably look at some pull down shades that can cover the window completely when the gaucho is made into a bed.

SteveV,

WOW! How could I overlook your post for so long? It is BEAUTIFUL! And I know, I've seen pictures of her with her clothes off! What a remarkably gorgeous job!

Camping at last, how super! I'm delighted to hear it! You go!

Have you named it?

BEST
Kai

Thanks Kai!

We plan on doing some trips to enjoy the Fall colors here in NC. I'm sure we'll have a list of things to add/change on the amerigo once we start using it.

I did call it a few names while working on it.....usually after every discovery of more rotted wood. Fortunately that pain has passed, I'm sure we'll come up with a name that's more positive now!

I hear you about names during redo...for a while, I called ours the rolling turd. (You may recall it was brown.) I suppose we were lucky it rolled.

A delight to see yours like this! We've never yet come home without a to-do list; many things are just aesthetic tweaks; some are functionally important. We can't figure it all out perfectly in the driveway.

Have a good weekend! We're off tomorrow for the SAFE; today we go see the cardiologist for Paul.

BEST
Kathleen

Stabilizer jack upgrade

Well we've been using the fg-16 for several years now and it seems like most of the time the site that we're setting up on has just enough of a slope that the vintage aluminum stabilizer screw jacks I'm using just don't quite do the job. We end up having to use a half dozen or so 2x6's under them just to get the needed height & figured it was time to upgrade the stabilizer jacks. I found this set at a local estate sale fairly cheap & plan on using them.

Since the frame is the lowest point under the amerigo's body I hate to give up another 4" of ground clearance so I think I'll make a slide in type of a mount so they can be easily removed while on the road. It seems like there's always something to do on a camper!
