I wanted to take the
Scamp to a glass place to get the
windows put in BUT after looking over my budget and not seeing any extra money in it and the fact that summer is coming to an end and I haven't been able to use the
Scamp yet, I decided to do them myself....
I had tried the "right" way of doing it and gave up, so I improvised. This is what I came up with...
I cut out frames for the front and back, inside and out and sandwiched the plexi in between. I bolted the frames to the camper, put the plexi in place with construction adhesive, a few rivets for good measure and some mirror clips, then put the inside frame on attaching it to the same bolts as the outside frame (this was quite difficult and frustrating!) I painted the outside and did alot of caulking and so far so good- I plan to
fiberglass the frames in and then sand them and
paint them better, but I ran out of time!
Also, by doing it this way, I decided to cut out a section in the back window for an air conditioner. I intend to build a shelf under the cutout, and run poles from the shelf to the bumper to support the A/C. I don't need it mounted permanently, so I also saved the piece I cut out (thinking about putting it on hinges or something, haven't decided yet) and also am making a screen that will just velcro around the cutout.
I also saved what I cut out from the insides of the frames and will use them for covers over the
windows on the outside. I have the back one partially done and attached it with the little hardware things you lock your house
windows with- worked quite well (will come up with something else for actually travelling!)
OK- thats it for my projects and pictures for now!
