We're thinking of re-doing the upholstery in our 16' Casita, just to get a different look. Before we scour the local yellow pages for upholstery shops, I thought it might be worth asking if anyone knows of sources for ready-made upholstery. We bought replacement upholstery for our Scamp directly from the factory after they came out with some solid color options. However, they were not willing to work with our fabric, saying they had too many difficulties trying this in the past.

I'm hoping that, just like a couple of companies that make custom mattresses to fit our eggs, maybe someone has already developed the patterns and willingness to make new upholstery. I know it's a long shot.....

Hi Parker,
Are you handy with a sewing machine or know someone who is? I have been to a great website. http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=527 This link will take you on a step by step easy to follow instructions on how to sew cushions. It looks pretty easy and when I am ready to replace my cushions I will be sewing them. Please note that when others tried to print these instructions, they did get the pictures. As I have a laptop I will take my computer over to the sewing machine to help me with this. Just an idea you might want to try and you could then use whatever fabric you wanted to make custom cushions. Good luck.

Contact Jim Palmer at Egg Camper - www.eggcamper.com/. The started using one of their clients to upholster the egg campers. I'm sure they would be happy to help you out.

Also, you may want to get on the Casita Travel Forum. At least one of their members does custom work for the Casita people. They would have the pattern for your Casita. I'm sure they would be willing to work with you on specific material.

Good luck

Lydia,

One of my favorite quotes about sewing machines is "Just another power tool" but I'm a lot handier with a saw. I did sew lined curtains for our Scamp, but that was more an engineering project than anything else.

We recently discoverd that, unlike Scamp, the folks who do the upholstery for Casita are willing to make new covers using fabric that we supply. They said it takes about eight yards and asked for ten to allow for matching. I think we may go that way. Your link does look like a great resource, but I don't think I'm ready to take that on.

Thanks!
Parker
