Lightbulb Bed in Boler Trailer

We love our 1978 Boler Camper, except for the approx. 48"wide bed. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to inrease the width of the bed? Our camper is the smallest size I think 10' not counting the hitch. At one end are bottom cupboards & the other the closet. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Linda

Hi Linda, welcome to FiberglassRV, we're glad you found us. BTW your Boler is referred to as a 13 footer... measured from hitch to bumper. There are several different things you can do to increase the sleeping area. If I was looking to change it, I'd look at the mod folks have done that alllows sleeping front to back (instead of side to side) with a platform built (and removable) that goes into the aisle. YMMV

If no one posts a link to this mod, I'll try to find it (there are several) and post back.

Others will probably join in with their thoughts soon.

No. 1 Cuddle closer.
No. 2. Build a filler piece to extend the table.
No. 3 Cuddle closer.
[Works for me!]

Here is Barrie Bochoff's solution. I know there are others.

Trillium queen bed option

Myron Leski was one of the first to make the mod and document the process: A Bigger Bed

king bed

you need to upgrade to a surfside or escape front kitchen

our surfside has two options when you set it up king or queen

we usually stick with the queen setup to leave more floor room for the dog

i am not sure of the escape bed size

I wondered if you could laminate some plywood to the closet on the door side to support the roof, then remove the bedside wall of the closet and widen out the bed to include the width of the closet, leaving the closet space below the bed, and also leaving the closet cupboard at some height above the bed. (Basically, a closet cut-out of three feet to widen the bed). The Surfside has a bed 10" wider at one end, and it works just fine. Of course, you could just get a Surfside, but as a 15 foot trailer, they are much heavier than the Boler.
