Better air circulation without ac

Does anyone have any ideas that will move air in the camper better than the little exhaust fan? We currently bring along a reciprocating fan: it moves air around well but is cumbersome.

Are you referring to the "Fantastic Fan" in the roof that Scamp offers as an option?

The 2-speed fan we have now does a decent job of pulling air in the windows on low, but on high it's too noisy to sleep, thus the table fan.

I use a small AC oscillating fan for me, plus a skinny O2Cool fan that I can position so it directs air down the length of my husband. Both are quiet, and the O2Cool will also run on batteries. We are in a humid climate, so "swamp cooler" solutions won't work for us. So far these have worked well in warm weather, with shade.

I too have an O2cool. It was less than $20 at Walmart. While it's true that it runs on D cells, I doubt they would last long. It really needs to be plugged into your trailer battery.

The O 2 cool fans look like they fold up and some are ac/dc. We'll check them out. Maybe I can figure out a clever way to mount one. Thanks.

Good point.. I still don't have a clue what you have, so I can't say what would be better. To the best of my knowledge the base model of Fantastic Fan is THREE speed, not two.. so I must assume that is not what you have.

Hot air rises so a roof mounted powered vent is the way to go. Which one is largely a matter of budget.

I'm sure you're correct - it's probably the original '98 fan. We run it on exhaust so it sucks air in the windows. The additional fan eliminates the dead air by the lower bunk.

Glad you said that,, Gordon. I should have mentioned that the two fans we use are in addition to the Maxx fan in the roof. Wouldn't work nearly as well without it!

Indeed, dead air is a consideration also. I have a 16, layout four and there is no air circulation on the front sofa / bunk by the bathroom. It is usually unoccupied (by humans at least) so it is not a problem for me, but if I were sleeping there I would want a small window, fan, or something for fresh air.

And I have the three speed Fantastic Fan roof vent.. and I think that even on low it is too loud. But then again, if it is really hot I use the A/C and thats more like a jet taking off!

I can only hear the fan or the A/C when I am awake . When I go to sleep the noise just dissappears.

And I suppose you also think that if a tree falls in the forest and you are not around to hear it, that it makes no noise?

Don't you love it when a hardware question morphs into a philosophy discussion?

I have lost most of my hearing in both ears so I can barely hear the fan or the A/C running at any time of day. My wife has to remind / tell me when they are running . Hardly a philosophical discussion more like a fact of life in my world.
If you can't hear the noise than the noise doesn't exist ?

OIC, sorry to hear that.. I am not far behind your I think, and not looking forward to it. Maybe I will upgrade to a quieter fan before then.. maybe not.

Have to talk to my family about my hearing issues! I'm sure ac would solve the issue, but I'm too cheap. Most nights up here cool down enough. What's the Maxx fan?

Looked the Maxx fan up. Nice, but I'll probably try the O2 cool first. Thanks!

Or camp on the shore of Lake Superior at Two Harbors or Grand Marais and pray for a NE wind.
Better than A/C any day.

John, if you run the fan with only one window open, usually the one you are near, you will get a nice air flow over you. If you have many windows open you will feel very little air movement.

I found the tiniest Vornado fan and it does this job really well in tandem with the indispensable Fantastical Fan that all of us should consider as standard equipment I think.

The Vornado is really small and folds up into itself for storage but like every Vornado just somehow moves a lot more air than you can imagine?

Its the one that looks like a Bullet.
It is called the "Flippi"?

No pics right now,Google it!

Also I have a few of this o2 fans and they will run for 8 hours on D cells in my experience and they can be connected to larger batteries too as they have a DC input jack.
I use them on every emergency radio deployment I am on and could not live without!
Fantastic also makes the Endless Breeze which is a standard box fan looking deal and it blows amazingly well too again like everything they sell.
