Bigfoot B17G microwave addition?

Howdy All,

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I just bought a 1989 Bigfoot B-17 Gaucho model that is pretty much all-original. It has a kitchen with a 4-burner stove, an oven and a fridge, but no microwave. Can someone tell me where the factory location for the microwave would be in this floorplan? Also, for anyone who has added a microwave, where did you find the best install location to be and what kind/size microwave did you use? Is it possible to use a small (.7 cu. ft.) home model?

Thanks!

Mike

I don't think there was a factory install back then.

I use a small home unit 0.7 cube, 600 watt that works fine Danby.

At the moment I just leave it sitting on top of the stove, I may install between the fridge and stove in place of the two drawers.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the reply and information.

According to the 1989 sell sheet/brochure a microwave was a factory option on the B17 and B21 models, but not on the B13.5 models. But in all the interior photos I've seen of 1980s vintage models, I've never noticed a microwave installed, which has piqued my curiosity on where the factory install location is.

The location in place of the two drawers you mention sounds interesting. I'll have to look into that further.

Thanks!

Mike

I think (not positive) that the factory install site was in place of one of the upper cabinets.

On my 21 footer, it is a bigger microwave unit and is installed in place of the oven (below the cooktop)

I am currently re-building my cabinets and am installing a microwave above the stove. The opening for it will be 10.5 x 19" so I need to find one that small!

Microwave location

My 1993 17CB came prewired with the closed off terminal box in the upper cabinet stove side rear.
If it's prewired, the box should be in an upper cabinet within about 3' of the logical mounting space. If you can find a covered box, and an unused but installed breaker then you are in luck.
However, the Gaucho version 'may' have installed it low down, so look there also.
Good luck and let us know if/where the box is.

Thanks Mike. I did find the wiring and junction box for the A/C in the cabinet above the stove, but nothing for a microwave. I'm starting to like the idea of replacing the standard oven with a microwave. I never use the oven, at home or on the road. And the stove top in this trailer is the one thing that is not in great condition. Maybe I should look into a new stove and ditch the regular oven for a microwave.
