Boler stripe/ fiberglass repair paint advice

Hello!
Just picked up my 17’ 1977 Boler. I was going to clean up the original fiberglass paint color and paint the stripes. Was wondering if anyone has found a similar color to original. I can’t find any info online. The stripes I will do black or grey, just concerned about covering the two repairs. Also any tips on sanding for the stripes would be great. Also have been reading to use marine paint, foam brush, or rustoleum. Hope this is all still accurate.
Thanks in advance!

Last year I matched the Pantone colours on the 17' boler stripe, they are:

Dark Stripe - Pantone 17-1353 TPX
Light Stripe - Pantone 13-0947 TPX

Hope this helps

Thank you so much! Do you by any chance know the background color? I have two patches to cover. Thank you!

I have a 17 foot Boler as well, I am using Interlux Brightside paint. Body will be white and the stripes will be blue and gray. Click image for larger version

This all sounds real good. FGRV was where we found information about painting fiberglass from so many kind people. Also there are videos on YouTube that can be helpful as well. Some better than others, most not very long. Good luck; should be beautiful!

BEST
Kai

I have used the foam roller and Oil Based paint technique and found it did very well on my Tanzer 22 sailboat.

A paint store can match the colors. Pay attention to the gloss, as a mismatch here will really stand out. I tend to use satin. Those little cats paw foam rollers work well, but due to their tendency to leave bubbles, you need to use really thin coats. And thin is good, really.

I sanded down to 220 grit with a random orbital sander and found that this was enough.

For paint, I used Sherwin-Williams best oil based enamel. I tried a latex on a boat once, and that was not a good idea at all!

Sorry Becaa, I didn't colour match the cream gel coat, but if you are just spot matching you would be better to colour match your trailer, there are differences in the gel coat colour and event weathering and fading.

Oh ya I never took into account how it’s been crazy faded from the sun and just from living for 41 years. Good call. I’ll clean it up and wax it good then bring it to the paint guys and get them to match as close as possible. So many factors I haven’t even been thinking of! Thank you!
