Gina, I looked at that set up several months ago. It was really heavy although I'm not sure how much the typical solar set up weighs. If you have or can get the HF % off coupons that float around it brings the price down even more.

I have been envious of Gina's 45 watt setup since I first saw it. When I received Harbor Freight's mailer with this sale on the front page, I did not hesitate to go to the store and buy it! I do not think that it is any heavier than Gina's... her's is mounted on 2" pvc and this one has an all aluminum frame with non-adjustable angle stand. The charge controller part looks underwhelming... I'll need someone more knowledgable than me to look at it and see if it is adequate, or could I do better.

Of course, I lift weights for a living, so I am a poor judge of an item's "heaviness".

Bring it up to Applewhite this weekend, And i can look and help you install, Fred.

Liz, I can lift mine, tho I would rather NOT so it isn't that big a deal. We have similar "Issues" and mine does not stop me.

It's lighter than my generator!

Do the grunt test comparing the two and let me know.

I'd like to be going camping this weekend but it's a birthday weekend. My baby is turning 20 and we are going to the Wild Animal Park as a family outing.

Gina, it's good to be KING! Go for it

Um, I'm pretty sure Gina's a girl. Really. I'm quite sure. Positive, in fact.

I nominate Gina for Queen. Second?

Pfui on conflict. Gina's pages are the easiest to read discussion on energy conservation I've found.

Gina,
Thanks for sharing all the good ideas for staying "off the grid".
I've implemented the CCFL lights and thinking about Solar for battery charging. So far I haven't had the opertunity to stay out long enough to need it, but expect too someday. The CCFL lights will help.

Nice job on the write up.

I cannot take credit for the CCFLs. Mike Taylor showed me his at Cambria and I ordered some as soon as I got home the next day.

You will enjoy them, and installation is a no brainer.
