bunkbed cushions

I am making new cushion covers for my 13' Boler. well I am sewing new material on to replace the rotten 40 year old stuff

Anyway I am wondering why there are two cushions on the couch/ lower bunkbed. I am thinking it would be simpler to make one cushion, but there must be a reason there are 2. I will be using it 90% of the time as beds for the kids, but like the idea of being able to fold it down to a couch still. would the top part be able to flip down properly if I made it into 1?

I will post pics of my new cushions on another thread. I hand sewed all new covers for the dinette area while we were camping this weekend. i am very pleased

The front cushion acts as your seat cushion, the smaller rear one which many call the banana cushion holds the upper bunk away from the wall at an angle.

When used as a bunk the 2 lower cushions are held together by the bunk poles.

To combine the 2 lower cusions into 1 would make the back of the front couch sit at an awkward angel.
