I'm thinking about rebuilding the (now missing) front bunk bed on my '82
Burro. On the Burros, the bunk is hinged at the top to a 4-inch piece of wood that is glassed to the front front wall. It strikes me that that 4-inch projection is going to make the couch very narrow with the bunk installed.
Has anyone come up with a different way to do it that preserves more space? The Scamps seem to only have a narrow ledge to mount the bunk to, maybe 2 inches and at least some of the photos here show simple butt hinges rather than offset hinges. Is there any reason I couldn't just cut it down and do that?
I've also thought about forgoing an attached bunk and putting a piano hinge in the center of the bed - along with the two end piece hinges - allowing it to better contour to the wall (I'm not that concerned about strength) and then some kind of peg on the bed to the shelf to hold it in place.
