Check out my tail light "upgrade"

A previous owner had replaced the original tail lights on my '84 Scamp with cheap-o Jeep-style trailer lights. One of them was mounted quite crooked. I took them off today and replaced them with the same ones that Scamp now uses. I got them at eTrailer for about $7 each.

This pic was taken with just the right side replaced so you can see the difference.

By the way, right after I finished the tail lights, I replaced the missing left side leveling jack... also from eTrailer. I had to cut it a bit... but it seems like Scamp had to do the same thing on the original one. I got a lot done today... our first trip is this weekend!

I just discovered etrailer while looking for axle bearing; they seem to have great prices, low shipping rates, and fantastic service. I think they have a new customer in me.

BTW, are all axle bearings now made in China?

Except it looks like the "original" were the wedding cake tail lights Whatever, it's certainly a big improvement over the Jeep trail lights

Smile Your trailer information

McBrew, it looks to me like you can remove that "(soon to be)" from your trailer information. Congratulations and good job. It looks ever so much better.

Looks like you mounted it upside down, shouldn't the clear square in the lens be on the bottom instead of on the top???? That is the way Doug has his mounted but it might not make any difference since the backup lights are not used on these campers................

My taillights (with the clear lenses pointed down) are NOT used, excluding the one over the prov. lic. plate which needs to be illuminated at night (here in B.C.). The non plate lighting lens does not have the bulb in the clear portion of the light assembly.

My backup lights are active and it's really nice to have them when pulling in after dark. Makes backing into an unlit remote campsite a whole lot easier.

I think my lights are different than Doug's. The license plate is illuminated by the tail light, so the one on the left has a clear bottom so that the light shines down on the plate. The way I have them mounted is really the only way. I don't use the back-up lights yet, but I am going to wire them to a switch to use them as rear "porch" lights. My Scamp has no 12v system at the moment... But I will be adding it as I go along.

Like mcbrew, my tail lights are different than Doug's and I have the clear panel in the bottom of the left one to illuminate the License Plate. I also have my Back-up lights wired to operate with the back-up light circuit from my tow vehicle.

I also have mine wired for use as rear "porch lights" and found that incandescent 1156 bulbs burn hot enough to melt the lenses if left on for any length of time.

Thanks for the heads-up on that... I might replace those with LEDs or lower wattage bulbs.
