Good post. thanks for the reminder. There are very few "standard" locks out there, and a lot of keys that fit. One non-FGRV dealer actually took the time to remind us to change the locks... too much duplication available...
Thanks, Pete.

I like the idea of never losing the key!

Most of these types of locks are programmable by the user. One thought would be to use the first 3 digits of your Social Security Number if you're US citizen. What ever you do don't loose the combination or you'll spend a lot of trial and error time. There's 991,010,994 possible combinations on a 3 digit combination lock.

Um, I think there are only 1000 combinations... from 000, 001, 002 all the way to 999. Or 10 times 10 times 10. But your point is well made. Lots and lots of combinations! Too many to try them all.

Upon reflection, Byron must have been pulling our leg with the math and I didn't catch on.

Or use the initials of your name based on the telephone numbers.

Mine would be 3-3-4 ??

I'd say he's just being extra safe with 3 locks with different numbers on the same door.

OK OK I'll confess. I tried calculating permutations and it's been so long since I've done that my rememberer didn't work right. But it looked good.

PS Steve, I believe you're correct, 1000 is right number.

Well, just the fact that you used the word [b]permutation in a sentence was impressive enough!

If someone tried to break into my one hatch.. they would get .... nothing. it's for my city water.

Now, if they want to fill my tanks with beer, who am I to keep them out?

In my case, both my Scamp door and the canopy/topper on my pickup truck use the Ubiquitous 751 Key and could be replaced with the combination lock.

Ah, my mind is now hurting from the permutations and combinations...(pun intended)

This lock looks to be for the access hatch doors, I'm wondering, has anyone changed their main door lock out to a combination type? I'm going to be changing mine out, so maybe a combination type is the way to go - I like the no key to carry around idea.

And for us in Canada it's available at Lee Valley tools for $17.50.
Got one! For the main door. Will tell you all how it turns out. Later!
